GoalNerd

GoalNerd is an adaptive goal-planning app for turning long-term goals into daily actions.

Most goal apps assume the plan survives contact with real life. GoalNerd assumes the opposite: missed days, changing constraints, overlapping goals, tired brains, bad weeks, and new information.

Why it exists

Goals rarely fail because the goal is unclear. They fail because the system around the goal is brittle.

A weight-loss goal changes calorie targets over time. A finance goal changes based on income, expenses, and emergencies. A study goal changes when work expands. Goals also influence each other: better sleep helps training, training affects appetite, spending affects travel, and so on.

GoalNerd is an attempt to model that mess directly.

Core idea

A goal is not just a title and a deadline.

It has:

  • a current state
  • a target state
  • daily actions
  • tracking signals
  • constraints
  • compensation rules
  • effects on other goals

The app starts manual and explicit. The intelligence comes from the structure first, not from asking an LLM to hallucinate motivation posters.

Current focus

The first version focuses on two goal types:

  • weight loss
  • personal finance

These are good test cases because they have real feedback loops, measurable progress, and brutal consequences when the plan is too optimistic.

What I am exploring

  • how to represent fuzzy human goals as structured systems
  • how daily plans should adapt without becoming chaotic
  • how goals should affect each other
  • where LLMs help, and where they should stay out of the way
